Flu Season
By Bo Lumpkin
I’m so sorry you have the flu,
Really my heart goes out to you,
The fever, the headaches that numb the brain,
The muscles are aching with terrible pain.
The eyes they water, the throat is sore,
But you know you just had to go to the store,
Your mouth is sore, your muscles jerk,
But you just can’t afford to miss any work,
So you go about your business in misery and pain,
And you try your best not to complain,
But remember the flu puts some folks to bed,
But you muster your strength and go out instead,
Just remember some are not as strong as you,
And their life is in danger if they get the flu,
I’m not writing this to create a fuss,
Just asking you to remember the rest of us.
I got my flu shot, Bo! Love the poem! π
I got mine too Deb. Thanks.
Good advice and very well written, Bo. I enjoyed your poem. My husband and I are fortunate in that I work from home, and he *can* work from home, so we are good citizens about not spreading germs. π
I don’t go out when I might be contagious. I don’t like to go into large crowds during flu season. I am not germophobic but I am sure a real dose of the flu might do me in. I have had my flu shot so maybe that will help.
Sick people really like to share.
And it’s the gift that keeps on giving…or maybe taking.
Bo, you’ve branched out into the world of rhyme. Thanks for sharing the thought and please avoid getting the flu. We all enjoy your wit and wisdom too much.
I am bein’ very cautious. This poem was inspired by a lady in Wal-Mart who was in line in front of me though.
Sick people should only share via Twitter or Facebook. Nice poem π
Very good advice and then de-germ your keyboards when are through using them.
Your laying down some cold truths today Bo. I know some folks have to go out because they may be the only ones in their home that can take care of their kids, etc. But if everyone would go get their annual flu vaccine it sure would help to minimize the impact of this on the rest of us. I get my flu shot each year like clock work and have finally talked my wife into getting hers, it sure beats getting sick or putting one of our older friends in the hospital. Take special care of yourself this flu season Bo and stay well, we need you around as long as we can.
Thanks Todd. I know there are times when people have to go out sick but they should do what they can to keep from spreading their germs. I take my flu shot too…every year but you never know if it will protect you completely or not.
So true.
Thanks for stopping by.
Wow! I did not know you are a poet, along with all your other talents!! Great poem. A few weeks ago I had a very flu-like illness and had to work. I used sanitizer and had everyone else using it, also…customers included!!
I’ve been writin’ poetry since I was in grade school. I kind of write in spurts. My wife and I go through more disinfectant wipes than Adrian Monk.
