The World’s Best Can Opener

There was a discussion about can openers on the Aedre’s Firefly site at www.e-orbits.com/ and I mentioned the old Military P-38.  Jande wanted to see a picture.  This is not the original military issue P-38 but it is close.  I bought this several years ago at Bass Pro Shop and I wouldn’t be caught without it.  I keep it on my key ring.  It is the best type of can opener I have ever used and it is always handy.

  1. I have always called that a John Wayne for some reason. I’m sure it’s a name my grandfather had for it, but I can’t recall. In either case I have one in my tackle box and one in my camping equipment, it’s something I always have with me when I’m out in the wilderness. Mine have opened a lot of beenie weenies and the like.

I’ve opened a lot of Vienna sausages and pork n’ beans with mine. They were really handy before the pull tab came along. I keep mine on my key ring so I will always have it with me.

I use to have one of those P-38’s years and years ago, and had it for year. They work great and easy to carry along too!…which is what there for to begin with.
    Missed you lately…Hugs xx

I wouldn’t want to do without mine. I’ve been around via telephone but didn’t have internet connection. Got wi-fi tonight so I’m gonna make the best of it.

I put that song you were talking about in a reply to you…enjoy!

Hey, thanks for posting that, Bo! Now that I see it, I remember my dad having one very much like it, probably a British version from WWII. I think I’m going to see if I can find one for my own key chain. Ya never know when an apocalypse might happen and you’ll really need one.
I’ll be sure to mention this to Melzor. ❤

Everyone should have one. I bought two when I got mine. One for me and one for my son. I need to find one for my grandson when he gets old enough for a key ring.

    I just use my teeth.

I haven’t seen one of those since I left the Navy. They were in the military ration packs & as you said are a very good can opener.
